The pronounciation of words are important in chanting. Otherwise the meaning will be different. My teacher told me that verses from Upanishad may be chanted without svara like any sloka. The vibrations will NOT be there without svara. The chanting of Prabandam may be learnt with a tape. My experience is that chanting is learnt good only from a person who knows the chanting. I was able to correct my way of chanting from the Prabanda recitation during the celebration of the 600th anniversary in New Jersey. DAsan Govindarajan
