Dear Ute: This celebration is called VaLai Kaapu ceremony in Tamil. Kappu means protection. VaLai stands for Bangles. I do not know if there is no Vedic significance for VaLai Kaapu other than a social function . Simanta and Pumsavana is for the purification of growing baby inside the Mother's womb. That has Vedic Significance .
