I cannot argue against what Mani has written since I used to be
equally vehement about avoiding horoscopes, panchangams etc.  I
changed my mind when people whom I was convinced knew what they were
doing did make limited use of panchangams etc.  The way I go about it
currently is that I try to schedule all events based on practical
considerations.  If some elder intercedes and insists on consulting
panchangam etc I take that as an instruction from Bhagawan and go
with it.
