Thanks to Krish for mentioning the shloka was from Bhagavatham.

On a related Siva/Vishnu question:
  is there any truth to what i heard that if vaishnavas (from the
south india) wnet to ta Siva temple, they would return home and 
take a bath as if they went to a cemetry?  how did this start?
