/namaskAram Shri Sadananda SwamikalE.

Thanks for an informative posting on the different levels of argumentation.

How does this meaning of the word /jalpA relate to the use of /jalpA by /Adhi sankarA. In song No. 27 of /soundarya/lahari, Shri sankarA begins a song as /japO jalpaH cilpam sakalam/api mudrA viracanA.

Offering everything to Goddess /kAmAzi, in total self-dedication, Adhi sankarA says, "May my prattle be a /japA (chanting) to you. . . ." Sometimes the word /jalpAH is also translated as "speech" in the same context.

Is it that the word /jalpaH acquires a special derogatory meaning when classified as /jalpA in logical debates?

Thanks for your considearation.
