From the Bhakti List Archives

• November 5, 1997

Dearest Sri VaishNavALs,

Due to various requests to post the pAsurams and their meanings of Nam
pANanathan's excellent AmalnadhipirAn which were sung at Sri RanganAthar
(Azhagiya maNavALa perumAL) sannidhi by our AzhwAr before he merged and
united with the Lord, let us have them written here and get the blessings
of AzhwAr and Divya dampathis.

(I am basically lifting the transliteration from Sri MaNi's VaishNava Home
page and the reproducing the meanings posted by Sri V. Sadagopan during Dec
95- amy mistake or errors in this post_ I am responsible; the positive
vibrations caused in you are due to the excellent meanings of Sri V.
Sadagopan.)

The meanings- I am planning to post in the next post so that those who wish
to have only the transliteration version (for recitation), can have hust
this post. However, these can greatly be appreciated with the help of rich
meanings.

Thanks for letting me perform this kainkaryam to my dear sisters and
brothers of this group.

madhava dAsan
THANIYAN # 1: (by Periya Nambi in Sanskrit)

Let me contemplate on TiruppAnAzhwAr (munivAhana, the saint, who was
carried to the precincts of the shrine of Lord Ranganatha, by
Lokasarangamuni on his shoulders), whose inner soul (antaratma) became
enraptured at the sight of the reclining Lord Hari (Ranganatha) betwixt
(the two streams of) the river CauvEri (and koLLidam), and who having
experienced (the vision of the Lord) from the feet to His Head declared
that his eyes would not see other objects (except the Lord).

THANIYAN # 2: (by Thirumalai Nambi in Tamizh)

Let us sing in praise of the Holy feet of Sri Tiruppanazhwar, who entered
(the Holy Shrine of Lord Ranganatha ) riding on the shoulders of the sage
(Lokasarangamuni) saw (the Lord in full) and sung (in praise of) Him limb,
by limb, as the Lord showed to him i.e., the Lotus
