What u say is true. The position of Sani decides good or bad. Yeli nati
sani or 71/2 years - the difficult period starts when sani comes to 12th position of the ascendant and stays till he moves of the 2nd house. He takes 21/2
years to move through each house hence total of 71/2 years. Also it is said
that the 2nd cycle of sani is more harmful that the 1st cycle. In total for
2nd cycle to come it takes 30 years or more.
Also there are exceptions to the above rule such as those who rasi or ascendant
is in Sanis house ie Makara and Kumba.
Also I thought Sani was a Vishnu Bhakta thats why they general ask people
who have bad influence of Sani to recite Vishnu Sahasranamam.
Total period of Sani maha Dasa is 19 years. He is also know to give very high
positions and prosperity to people in whose horoscope he is in a favorable
position. He is the yogakaraka for those with libra ascendant.
