TEN COMMANDMENTS

On the event of Pillai Lokacharya s sathumurai, I hazard to venture into His ten commandments, at the risk of attracting the blame of repetition. These ten commandments are so renowned, that they must have been often repeated in this forum, time and again.

dhvayap prakaraNam.
 The indispensable characteristics of Sreevaishnavites is spelt as ten prescriptions by Swami Pillai Lokacharya.
1. purambuNdAna paRRukkaLai vasanaiyOdu vidugai- To completely extricate oneself from the interests in external things. This is akin to the terms'sarvadharmAn pari dhajya.
2. emberumAnE thanjam enRu paRRugai- To surrender unto Lord comprehensively. This is similar to the term,"mAm Ekam saraNam vraja"
The above two points are similar to 'vEdumin muRRavum, vEdu seidhu, vummuyir, vEdudaiyAnidai vEdu seiminE"
3. pERu thappAdhenRu thuNindhirukkai- The conviction that we will be granted salvation by the LOrd.
4. pERRukkuth thvarikkai-Having got the conviction that we will indeed be granted the End, being expecting with eagerness when it will fructify and materialise at the earliest- 'kOvik koLLUm kAlam innam kurugAdhO'
5. irukkum nAl vugandharuLina nilangalil pravaNaNai ghuNanubhava kainkaryangaLil  pozhudhu pOkkai i.e Reside in dhivya dhESangal and perform kainkaryams and involve inemberumAn s kalyaNa ghuNangaL , till the end of ones physical form in this world.
6. ippadi irukkum sreevaishnavargal ERRam aRindhu vugandhirukkai- Being very affectionate and warm towards sreevaishnavites who live according to the prescriptios as mentioned hereinabove, understanding their values.
It is pertinent to note that periya jEyar has commented that even if the other characteristics exist in a person, this characteristic is very difficult to be attained.
7. thiru mandhrathilum, dvayathilum niyadhan Agai- Live according to the content specifics of thirumandhram and dvayam.
8. AchArya prEmam gaNathirukkai- The fondness towards The AchAryan, who has educated all the aspects mentioned above.
9. AchAryan pakkalilum, emberumAn pakkalilum, krithagzhanAi pOruvadhu- 
Being grateful to the AchAryan who has rectified our mistakes and made us eligible for attaining salvation and 
Being grateful to emberumAn for having created adhvEsham - anti-apathy towards Him- and made us closer to the AchAryan and
10.gnAnamum, virakthiyum, sAnthamum, vudaiyanAyirukkum parama sAthvikanOdE, sahavAsam paNNugai- Residing along with persons who are possessed with gnAnam but at the same  time do not have the pride that they possess the knowledge and have virakthi towards aprAptha vishayangaL.
