Dhaniyans for Bhattar Bhashyam of Sahasranaamam

From the Bhakti List Archives

• March 11, 1996

I came across these "dhaniyan"s associated with the "bhagavat guNa tharpaNa",
or Sri Paraashara Bhattar's bhaashyam of the Sahasranaamam. These might make an
appropriate addition to this effort. - Sundar

Transliteration notes : tha, THA, dha, DHA, na and ta, TA, da, DA, NA.

shree:

Dhaniyan for Sri Paraashara Bhattar.

Sri Parashara Bhatta, who is purohita (literally, one who is put in front)
for Sri Ranganatha, and who is the son of Srivatsaanga Mishra (
Koorathaazhvaan ), who is
favored of Gnyana Lakshmi, Mother of Wisdom, may he grant me 'shreyas' -
spritual
riches.

These following shlokas are composed by Sri Bhattar.

Salutations to the Lineage of Preceptors .

I salute Govinda Bhatta and my father Srivatsaanga Mishra. Then, I am
beholden to think always of Sri Ramaanuja. I meditate on Periya Nambi (
Mahapurna ). I place Yaamunachaarya in my heart. May I reach the grace of
Sri Rama Mishra, and doing so attain the darshana of Pundareekaaksha, the
lotus-eyed one. The first acharya of the tradition, Sri Nathamuni, I
worship him. I praise Nammaazhvaar. May I gain the grace and vision of Sri.
As one without other refuge, I surrender to Shreedhara.

Salutations to Vishvaksena

With Sutravati for a wife, he rules with the help of his four "parivaara" -
lords,
named Gajaana, Jayastena, Harivaktra, and Kaalaprakrti Samagnya. He,
Vishvaksena,
Sri Rangaraja's senapati - general, I sAulte him by saying "Om".

Salutations to Vedavyaasa

Siman Narayana was born as Sri Krishna Dvaipaayana ( this is a reference to
Vyasa's
being dark of complexion, and being born of Satyavati on an island shrouded
by mist
caused by Shri Parashara, who was his father ). From him were born ( he
organized and
compiled them) the four vedas and the Mahabhaarata, which is the fifth. I
salute him.

Parashara Bhatta Describes Himself (in the third person).

All the fortune Shreevatsaanga Mishra had was being the one next to Sri
Ramanuja.
Of that great Kuresha he was born. He was titled Bhatta by Sri Ranganatha
himself.
This Bhatta was also named Sriranganatha. This Sahsranama Bhashya was caused
by Sri Ranganatha, and for the desire for Sri Ranganaatha's blessing does
this Bhatta
undertake this task.

Salute to the Assembly of Scholars.

This world and life has never had wisdom in matters of the divine. To
explain this
secret of vedanta to people who are convinced they are full of knowledge
is, on my part, foolhardiness. May Sri Vyasa and Sriman Narayana, who
created this shloka and
are worshipped in it, tolerate my ignorance.

Enjoy this amrtha-nectar, with a sort of love for Sripati, who is the
meaning of this Sahasranaama, and the names that tell of him, and for me
who translates them. I
salute you and pray of you. May no one be disappoined in this or have
enmity because
of this.
