improtance of sandhyavandanam?

my pranams to everyone in this group,

 I am a new member in this bhakti group. I am a
vadagalai iyengar and am 24 years old. I have been
performing "sandhyavandanam" for about a decade now.I
would like to know the importance of doing
sandhyavandanam.What do the prayers mean?
Could anyone suggest good websites or literature where
I can read and understand regarding this?
