RE-THRIDHANDAM

From the Bhakti List Archives

• March 28, 2000

DEAR SRIVAISHNAVA PERUNTHAGAIYEER

The thri dhandam - it also represents the three classification in
srivaishnavam of chethanan achethanan and paramaathmaa. The advaitha sanyasi
has one dhandam - aham brahmaasmi- no duality- as per their basic
philosophy.

Whenever the thridhandam is laid on the ground and then lifted back to the
vertical position it mean the sanyaasi holding the dhandam paid his
saashtaanga praNamam (physical prostration- seviththal). That is also called
dhanda praNamam. There is no need for the sanyasi to do the physical
prostration.

Also one may notice a small flag in the thridhandam. It is a piece of cloth
for purposes of doing japam. Since sanyasi has only one vasthram, how to do
the japam by covering his hands? This cloth helps and then it goes back to
that position.

These are few points which were told by my Son to inform all bhaagavathaas
thru the net.

Vasudevan M.G.
