thoo nilA muRRam - part 39 - "sArngam uthaittha sara mazhai pOl"

Sri ANDAL thiruvadikaLE saraNam

Dear bAgawathAs,

It is said that Sri ANDAL delivered in the 4th pAsuram in
thirup pAvAi as "sArngam uthaittha sara mazhai pOl" on seeing Sri
sArangan and HIS bow on HIS hand in thiru kudanthai. ie., It seems
Lord pressed with right thumb on the bow and it seems the arrows
took off as multiple warheads and poured on as similar to a rain
showers the opponent in Sri Lanka. The word "saram" has a special
meaning here. There are several types of rain showers. This is a
special one. This has an unique pattern. The density of the rain or
a forest is sometimes seen with respect to how you can see between
the two consecutive drops or columns of rain that are falling or
the two consecutive trees that are present in a forest. The saram
here denotes the dense and packed number of several arrows coming
out in a particular pitch (the distance between each of them) or an
order or an arrangement that gives the enemy no shelter anywhere
in between any two arrows.

The moolavar HIMself is appearing as the ursavar as well.
While in Srirangam, the moolavar is worshipped as Lord Sri Krishna
("vennay uNda vAyan" smells butter in Sri Garba graham all the
time), Ursavar Sri namperumAL is seen as Sri Rama by many. However,
in thiru kudanthai divya dEsam both the moolavar ("nadantha kALgaL
nonthavO" ie., the legs that walked to Sri lanka are tired), and
the ursavar Sri sArngapAni are both seen as Sri RamA by some.
However Sri nammAzhwAr sees the moolavar as Sri krishna who gave
mOksham to Sri boothanai mainly (pEycchi avaLai muLaiyOdu "vuyir"
uNdAn"). When Sri rAma worshipped both Sri Ranganthar and Sri ArA
amuthan inside HIM prior to HIS grand pattAbishEkanm, it is said
that visAlAkshee, Sri SithA pirAttti stood next to HIM and looked
at both Sri Rama and Sri Aranga ArA amuthan, back to back
wondering whose eyes are more wonderful. Vedha purushan, purusha
utthaman Sri Raman and Sri Krishnan are seen even today in the
reflected eyes of Sri ArA amuthan for those who constantly think
of HIM and pray to HIM.

Sri nammAzhwAr also addressed the Ursavar as "nARROL enthAy,
unathu aruLE, piriyA adimai ennai koNdAi". The Lord who has
chathur bujam, (in this sannithi it is the ursavar Sri sArnga
rAjan who has chathur bhujam), you have taken me as your adimai who
will never leave you on any circumstances. There are not many
ursavars who are addressed by AzhwArs. This can also be meant that
you made me as your adiyAr due to your infinite compassion and you
never want to leave me (piriyAmal ennai adimai koNdai) neither you
will give me up on any occassion. Thiru kaNNa puram ursavar
(currently Sri Vaduvoor Sri Ramar) was addressed by thirumangai in
HIS pathigam.

Sri kOmaLa vaLLi thAyAr samEtha Sri ArA amudhan thiruvadikaLE
