Thiruvaaymozhi 7.1-Lord! Sense organs are pulling me into cheap lowly pleasures!

Dearest Sisters and Brothers,

(Thanks to each one of you, BhagavatOttamaaLs, for your encouragement on 
"AghalagillEn.... It is His (NammAzhwAr's) blessing that makes it more 
enjoyable to all of you). We are thereby immensely benefitted by Sri V. 
Sadagopan's rich deep analysis, full of substance)

AzhwAr in the Sixth hundred surrendered to Lotus Feet of Emperumaan 
SarvEshwaran, who is a Sarvarakshsakan. Here in this ten, AzhwAr cries 
as to why Emperumaan, in spite of blessing him with the knowledge about 
Him, still pushes AzhwAr into the deep cruel mouths of FIVE SENSES. It 
is yet another excellent set of ten, wherein AzhwAr laments about the 
sorrows and pains from Sensual pleasures and asks Emperumaan to save him 
from the clamps of FIVE SENSES.

Each pAsuram, in this ten consists of first two lines about the 
sufferings from the sense organs, while the third and fourth lines refer 
to Emperumaan. What a poet! (PiLLai thirunaRaiyoor Araiyar says: These 
ten pAsurams are like the painful cries of the child that has been 
caught in the mouth of the ferocious tiger.- What an anubhavam!)

1. Oh MaayaavanE (The Mysterious Lord!) The One who has the Big Moola 
Prakritti itself as Your Body! The One who is praised even by Nitya 
sUris! The One who has all three worlds in Your possession! My master! 
My dear! My Father! My Sweet Nectar! Why do You have to still make me 
suffer from these five sense organs that are contained in me. Why do You 
make me lose myself to these sense organs? The One who is supposed to 
rule me and take me - You Yourself ARE PUSHING ME INTO THESE SUFFERINGS. 
(You Too, Lord!)  

2. BhagawaanE! You are sweet in all respects. You are so tasty like the 
sugar cane! You are the Nectar to conquer Death! (Births and Deaths!) Oh 
Lord of Dark Cloud Colour! The One who protects and saves this world, 
surrounded by Oceans! (with Your Most Strongest, Most shining 
ChakrAudham! You, who can be comprehended and understood through VedAs, 
is NOT at all visible to me, the Greatest sinner , lowly self. Can You 
let me be ruled by these most cruel five sense organs, that are housed 
in my body? How can You let me serve these senses day and night? Can You 
leave me, who is Your ETERNAL servant, to serve these sense organs? Can 
I be trapped like this and let me NOT reach Your Lotus Feet? You SHOLUD 
SIMPLY BRUSH ASIDE EFFORTLESSLY the ruling of my senses and show me Your 
Beautiful face. On the Contrary, YOU ARE IGNORING ME AND ABANDONING ME 
THROUGH MY SENSE ORGANS. (Is it correct, Lord?)

3. My Dearest Lord! You are the Cause and Creator for all worlds! You 
are the One who protected by eating and then bringing the universe out 
during the Cosmic Cycle. You are THE One who measure the entire Universe 
with Your Feet, as Trivikraman. You are the One who brought back the 
world during Your Varaaha avataar. You are so great and so capable 
beyond one's comprehension. You are so Beautiful and have shining Crown 
on Your Head. Like You killed Madhu kaitapar (asurAs), Please destroy my 
sense organs and occupy me (the One born to serve You only) to serve You 
for ever. These five senses are praising me and enticing me to seve 
them, make me suffer and DO NOT let me reach Your Feet. WHAT IS THE USE 
FOR YOU BY STOPPING ME REACH THE ABODE OF YOUR LOTUS FEET, BY KEEPING 
THOSE CRUEL SENSE ORGANS IN ME? Can You afford to see the DESTRUCTION of 
SWAROOPAM (my nature of being an eternal servant of Yours)? (BUT IF YOU 
CONSIDER THAT BY LETTING THESE FIVE SENSES OCCUPY ME AND TRUBLE ME IS 
USEFUL TO YOU IN SOME RESPECTS, THEN I AM DELGHTED TO UNDERGO THE SAME.)

4. OH Lord! You are the medicine for my great and enormous sins that 
this mahApaapi has committed. You are the one who (long ago) having 
devoured the seven worlds, was seen (by the Sage MarkandEya and found to 
be )lying on the leaf of a great banyan tree as (an exquisite) Child, 
incomparable. You have kept those five senses in me and without my 
knowledge, let me be completely conquered by these senses. By pushing me 
in those senses, and showing me to them, You have made Yourself, 
completely unseen by my eyes. (Even if You are with me always, I will 
NOT bother to be conquered by these senses. But You have pushed me from 
behind and You disappeared.)

5. EmperumaanE, The One who destroyed the entire asurA kingdom with Your 
Most strongest ChakrAyudham! Oh Chief of Nitya suris! WHY DID YOU LET ME 
BE POSSESSED BY THESE SENSE ORGANS? If there is any other punishment 
give that. (Please do not push me into this deep well). Why did YOU 
SIMPLY ABNDON me by pushing me into these sufferings from five sense 
organs? THERE IS NO ONE (A BETTER medicine than You) who can alleviate 
this suffering except You. IS THERE ANY ONE? TELL ME. ("aar marundhu ini 
aaghuvaar?") Who else if the Rakshakan? 

6. OH Grandest Lord! ParavaasudEvA! DO YOU KNOW HOW TERRIBLE ARE THE 
CRUEL ACTIONS OF FIVE SENSE ORGANS?  Right from GarudA, down to the 
insects and unicellular organisms, EVERYONE is influenced and conquered 
by these cruel, terrible sense organs. NO ONE CAN ESCAPE. (How true!- 
AzhwAr, dearest sisters and brothers, was NOT at all suffering from 
these sense organs, right from his birth. He writes, only ON OUR BEHALF. 
They are so naturally applicable to us.). When such is the case, even 
for the DevAs, and NityasUris, how can it leave me, the one who is born 
in this material, earthly world? EVEN IF YOU, YOU TOO, feed me to these 
five sense organs, who else can help me, my Lord, hereafter? Oh Lord of 
Divine "naadham" music! (can You not hear the sound of my cries?) Oh 
Lord, who lives in the poems! (can You NOT hear my words of suffering?) 
Oh Lord, who lives in Bhakti! (can You not hear my lamenting and longing 
to be with You?) Is there anything that You CAN NOT do? ARE YOT THE 
SUPREME LORD? You are the One who is the only interesting matter for my 
inner eyes and the external (physical) eyes, as well. Hence, You should 
show Yourself and be the subject matter for my eyes. You are the ONE WHO 
IS IN MY HEART AND IN MY WORDS. Please come and tell me a word for me to 
hear Your words through my ears and get rid of my sufferings. (Please 
let me come back to "real life!"- " In Hindi, yEh jeenaah bhI koi 
jeenaah hai!").

7. When DevAs and asurAs (long ago) churned the Ocean, they all got 
scared and attempted to run away. It was YOU, who came to the rescue and 
helped to stop the manthara mountain from wobbling (by taking 
KUrmAvataar) and helped dEvAs and asurAs churn the Ocean with VaasukI. 
You are the One who is the DRINKING NECTAR for me, the mahaapaapi and 
the terrible Greatest sinner. ("this is the Prapatti monitor- naichiyaam 
and KaarpaNyam.") Oh en AaraaamudhE- Insatiable nectar for me! These 
strongest, most cruel five sense organs are telling something, but doing 
contradictory things on me and are terribly influencing me and pulling 
me into deep horrors of sensual pleasures and shaking my mind's 
determination and Vairagyam. HOW WILL I EVER CONQUER THEIR LOWEST CHEAP 
ACTIONS AND ENTICEMENT? IF YOU DO NOT SHOW YOUR FACE, IS THERE ANY OTHER 
WAY FOR ME TO WIN AND CONQUER THEM, MY DEAR LORD?

8. Oh Lord! , The One who loves me like my mother! ("Thirumangai mannan 
says: "peRRa thaayinum aayina cheyyum"- saying "Narayana" does more than 
the mother!") For me alone, did You take KrishNaavataar? (nammAzhwAr 
always falls for Krishnavataar! It is also told that AzhwArs (except for 
Andal and madhurakavi),  are Bhagawaan's abhinava dasaavataaram and 
Nammaazhwaar is comparable to Krishnavataaram). You are offering 
Yourself ceaselessly to the fullest enjoyment of NityasUris! can You not 
remove these shackles and my sufferings by showering Your grace to me 
similarly (as You do to NityasUris!)? When the sense organs join with 
the mind and act, they look and give an ILLUSION THAT IT IS ALL 
PLEASURES. WHEN IT DEVELOPS AND INCREASES, IT SHOWS ITS COLOUR AND IS 
MORE VENOMOUS THAN POISON. Even individually, it is capable of 
conquering one completely and win over them. (by its action namely, 
seeing, touching, hearing, smelling and tasting). Right from lowly 
people, upto BrahmA, with no discrimination, the sense organs attack 
mercilessly and dumb their intellects and push them into samsaaric ills. 
(Wow! what a description by AzhwAr!) Such a tie in with Prakritti, only 
You should remove and cut asunder these connections completely. YOU 
SHOULD BLESS ME TO THINK OF AND PRAISE YOUR CHINNAMS (ornaments) AND 
DIVINELY BEAUTIFUL FACE AND PAY OBEISANCE TO YOU WITH BOTH HANDS. 
(means: mind, Speech and actions shall escape the clasps of sense 
organs!)

9. One's sins that are committed, not only finishes him; but also his 
entire kulam (lineage) and pushes one into the deep valley of most cruel 
sensual pleasures. Hence, please show mercy one me to get rid of these 
sense organs' influences COMPLETELY, and alleviate my sufferings. You 
are the One who created the Earth, the sky, all objects and beings. and 
NOT JUST THAT. You came as Krishnan to protect us and showed Your Most 
shining, illustrious Beautiful Divya MangaLa ThirumEni (Divine Body). 
YOU SHOULD ONLY gracefully SAVE ME FROM NOT FALLING INTO " siRRinbham" 
(sensual pleasures).

10. My AthmA, should naturally be able to enjoy Your LOTUS FEET and melt 
at that sight overwhelmingly and blissfully, and I should call You most 
desirously and lovingly " Oh My dearest Lord, who showed me Your Most 
Beautiful Divya MangaLa ThirumEni!". And on the contrary, You are not by 
my side and WHY DID YOU GIVE ME THIS LOWLY PHYSICAL, MATERIALISTIC, BODY 
THAT INVLOVES ITSELF ALWAYS IN " siRRinbham" (transitory momentary 
pleasures)? When it is meant for performing kamikaryam to You,  it is 
NOW being used  as carrier of these sense organs that are stacking and 
piling burdens and burdens on me. These sense organs, not only add 
burden to me, but also are pushing and kicking me into the cruel, deep 
samsarric valleys. YOU ARE THE POSSESSOR OF THIS ATHMA AND THE BODY. HOW 
CAN YOU LET IT SLIP OUT OF YOU, MY LORD? Oh amudhamE (nectar!) Oh Most 
Beautiful Lord! Please save me from all these sense organs. (NampiLLai 
interprets interestingly regarding the stacking of burdens- The Prince, 
on the way, stopped for a while, removed his crown and his royal attire 
and found himself being mistaken for an ordinary man by others; others 
load him with their belongings, when they take rest as a "sumaithaanghi" 
(to hold their burdens for sometime). The burdens keep increasing and 
are stacked on his head. The Prince himself forgets his self and his 
actual existence. This is smilar to that. WE ARE PRINCES AND SONS (and 
DAUGHTERS) of the Divine Parents).

11. For Brahma, who with his rajas guNa, creates the world; for Sivan, 
who with his thamasa guNa, destroys the worlds; He, Sri VishNu stands as 
antharyaami in them and acts. He is the One who protects and saves the 
worlds. He is the One who has His Yogha nithrA on the Bed of AdhisEshan 
on the Milk Ocean. I, SADAGOPAR, AM THE HUMBLE LOWLY SERVANT OF SERVANT 
OF SERVANT OF SERVANT OF EMPERUMAAN, WHO HAS THE RED LOTUS IN HIS NAVEL, 
have sung 1000 pasurams on Emperumaan. Out of those 1000, readers of 
these ten will GET THEIR KARMIC DISEASES REMOVED AND ALLEVIATED 
AUTOMATICALLY AT ALLTIMES.
