Introduction

From the Bhakti List Archives

• June 12, 2001

Dear friends,

My name is Lakshminarayanan (I prefer to say it this way,
than "I am Lakshminarayanan" -- for I really don't know what
that "am" means there!).

My birth made me an Iyengar. And that blessed my teens with
immense faith in Lord Narayana which inturn blessed me with
many material things (for example, some good educational
degrees), and made me say "Kurai ondrum ellai Govinda!"

Very soon, I hit upon the question "What is the purpose of
life?" and this shaked the very foundations of me, namely,
faith in Lord Narayana! I am still searching for an answer
to this question. I am joining this list with a hope to
understand the basic principles behind Sri Vaishanavism and
to find answers to

1. What does Sri Vaishnavism defines as "the goal of life"?
(Does it define one at all?)

2. What does Sri Vaishnavism say on "Why should there be a
goal for life?"

I am really an illiterate with respect to the literature of
Sri Vaishnavism. All that I learnt in my childhood was a few
shlokas, with out their meanings. So, please enlighten me.
Further, I am not sure, how the aforementioned questions of
mine sound. If they sound harsh or impolite, please execuse
me for it.

Thanks and Regards,
Ln
