Lakshmi,

I am not even fit to answer any of your questions. However I asked the same
question as your first question (below) to an Vedic authority during my trip
to India
last year and following is the reply I got:

The Tharpanam we perform is meant not only for our forefathers but also for
the
Vasus, Rudhras and Adhityas. There are a certain number of Vasus, Rudhras
and Adhityas existing. These do not refer to a particular God but are
titles.
As per Bhagavad Gita, (I think) there are 11 Rudhras.
So even though our forefathers might have attained mOksham, we still need to
perform the Naimithika karmas (Tharpanam, ceremony, etc,.) to please the
Vasu, Rudhra, Adityas.

Please apologize any discrepancy in my reply.

1.Why do we perform Tharpanam even for Prapannas.Alwar
in His Thiruvaimozhi says "Maramannal
Vaikuntham Koddukum Piran" .
