Dasavatara Sannidhi

From the Bhakti List Archives

Dear Members of the Prapatti Group,

I wish to thank everyone who has contributed to the Dasavatara Sannidhi
project. We are roughly near the halfway mark.

This is a very important Sannidhi in the history of Srivaishnavism. The
Sannidhi owes its origin to Thirumangai Azhwar. When Thirumangai Azhwar
completed building the Srirangam temple, He expressed His desire to see the
Lord in His 10 principal avataras. The vigrahas appeared in His presence.
Thirumangai Azhwar built a temple for these vigrahas. He also sculpted a
vigraha of Himself which is also in this sannidhi.

Swami Desika composed His Dasavatara Stotram during His visit to this
Sannidhi.

In recent times this Sannidhi was virtually the headquarters of Sri Ahobila
Muth during the last 15 or20 years of the stewardship of His Holiness, Sri
Vedanta Desika Yateendra Mahadesikan.

It is in an attempt to fulfil the desire the this Mahaan, that His disciples
are continuing the effort to provide Prasadam to all visitors to this
Sannidhi everyday.

Please email your pledges to me before January 31st, and mail your check to:
Sri Ahobila Muth,

Sincerely,

Jaganath.
