Dear BhakthAs of AnjanEyA !

SUNDARA KHAAANDHAM & HANUMAAN
*********************************************
The most auspicious Sundara Khaandham is rich with
references to the heroic deeds of this Rama Dhootha. Sita
Devi and HanumAn dominate the incidents described by
Vaalmiki Kokilam . That is why this KhAndahm has been
saluted as Srimadh Sundara Khaandham . The recitation
of Sundara KhAndham is recognized as SarvAbheeshta Pradham .
Individual sargaas have been prescribed to overcome the Navagraha
peetai and for banishing the ills of SamsArA . For instance ,
one suffering from Sani dasai can get relief from the adversities
of Sani dasai by reciting the 48th sargam of Sundara KhAndham.
If Budha Bukthi causes harm during the reign of Sani Graham ,
the recitation of the 54th sargam dealing with the burning of
the city of LankhA by HanumAn is recommended . If Sukra bukthi
is enmeshed in Sani dasA , the 38th sargam dealing with the
samarpaNam of ChooDamaNi by HanumAn to SitA devi is
recommended for recitation .

The most sacred sargam (15th ) dealing with the success of
HanumAn's efforts to locate SitA Devi in LankhA is recommended
for those , who wish to shed off poverty .

HanumAn is recognized as a BhagvathOttamA by Saint ThyagarajA.
This Rama BhakthA saluted the other Rama BhakthA standing in the
front row of Rama BhakthAs of all times in his Vasantha VarALi and
PurNa LalithA raaga Krithis .

Vasantha VarALi Krithi : Paahi Rama Dhootha Jagath PrANa Kumara , Maam
*********************************************************************************
****

(Meaning ) ; O Messenger of RamamchandrA ! Please bless and protect me !
You have jumped over the vasrt expanse of the ocean and killed the son of
RavaNA by the name of Akshaya KumArA ! Your lotus-like face shines
with the lustre of early morning sun ( TaruNAruNa vadhanaabhja ) .
You shine with the brilliance of crores of Suns. You have the good
fortune of holding Sri RamachandrA's lotus feet in your hands. You are
the cyclone that drives away the cloud of sins of the Kali Yugam . You
destroyed the dreaded RakshasAs of LankhA , just as sage Agasthya
drank up the oceans in a sip .

You always execute successfully , whatever task is assigned to You
by your Lord . O dweller under the celestial tree of
PaarijAthA ! Your movement is swift as the wind . You conquer Navagraha
peetAs with your strong and sacred feet ( paadha vijitha Dushta Graha).
You are the redeeemer of the fallen ( Pathitha loka paavana ) . You are well-
versed in VedAs and SaastrAs ( Veda saastra nipuNa varya ) . You are the best of

beings (Varya ) . You have always a blemishless mind ( Vimala chittha sathatham
) .
You are the house of abundant compassion ( KaruNA rasa ParipurnA ) .
Your body resembles the golden mount Meru ( KaanchanAdhri Sama Deha ).
You are the foremost among the Lord's BhagavathAs ( Parama Bhagavatha
VarENya ) . O Giver of Boons (Varada ). Please protect me !

PURNA LALITHAA KRITHI
*****************************

This krithi begins with the pallavi : " Kalugunaa padha
neeraja seva ? Gandhavaaha Tanaya ". Here he wonders
whether he(Saint ThyagarajA ) would ever be priveleged to
witness HanumAn"s Nitya , Niravadhya Kaimkaryam to
the Lord . He says : " You are the foremost among Sri RamA's
BhakthAs ( BhakthAgrEsara ) . You shine with the supreme
bliss(BrahmAnandham ) as a result of your frequent darsanam of
your Lord .

Can I also have the blessed fortune to see the Lord of the Universe
, Sri RamA , directly performing His daily anushtAnams, getting up early in
the morning , having his Amrutha snAnam , holding Your hand , offering
BhogA to Sri RanganAtha , partaking of the PrasAdhA from SitA's
blessed hand and commanding you to read the holy PurANAs ?"

Here Saint ThyagarAja yearns for participation in the Nitya kaimkaryam
for the Lord just as HanumAn .

Mutthuswaami Dikshithar & HanumAn Krithis
**************************************************

Sri Mutthuswamy Dikshitar has given us an elegant krithi composed in
Raga Kaanada : " Veera HanumathE , NamO namO ". He praises HanumAn
as " sarva VidhyA dhaana NipuNa " or the one one who is able to bless us
with all types of Knowledge . In his krithi celebrating NarasimhA of Sholingar
(KatikAchalam ) , Dikshithar pays His tribute to Yoga HanumAn having SankhA
and chakra and standing opposite Yoga Narasimhan in the hills of Sholingar.
Dikshithar chose Ragam Mohanam ofr this krithi and salutes both HanumAn
and NarasimhA this way : " Dheera tara katikaachalEswara sowratara Hema
Koteeswara veera vara mohana vibhAswara maara vara maanava Hareeswara ,
Mura hara naka tara sarasija kara parama purusha pavanaja subha kara
suruchira kari giri varada vichara sarasa guru guha hrudhya saha chara
(Narasimha Aagaccha )".

Purandara Daasa & HanumAn Krithis
******************************************

Purandara Daasa belonging to Udippi Matam tradition , where HanumAn
is a presiding deity as Mukhya PrANan , eulogised HanumAn in number
of Krithis . In his NagasvarAli krithi with the pallavi of " PrANa nAtha PaalisO
" ,
he salutes the Rama dhoothan. In his Reethi GowlA krithhi starting with the
Pallavi , " Mukhya PrANa yenna Mula GuruvE " , Dasar says " Bhumi neenE yenakE ,

Buddhi yuneenE , Nema neetE yenakE , NishtayuneenE
prema neenE yenakE , priyaLu neenE
Swami neenE yenakE sakalavu NeenE . The nemam , nishtai, buddhi , priyam
and all (sakalm ) are all identified as HanumAn by Daasar in this krithi .
The concept of HanumAn being mukhya PrANan is a fundamental
doctrine of Maadhva sampradhAyam .

In his SaarangA raga Krithi starting with the Pallavi line of
" Koosina Kanteera mukhya PrANana kanteera " , he offers His
profound salutations to HanumAn in a way that reminds one of
the highlights of this Rama BhakthA's life :

CharaNam 1 : anjana udharathi janisithu koosu
Ramana paadhakkerikuthu koosu
SeehtEkunkarakottithu koosu
lamkApuravanu suttithu koosu

CharaNam 2 : panti annava undithu koosu

>From his birth as the son Of AnjanA to his heroic deeds
in LankhA , AnjanEyA is saluted here.

In his KalyANi krithi with Anupallavi , " Sanjeevi Rayara
smaraNa maadhitha melE , Daasar describes the palam
of worshipping HanumAn , who brought sanjeevi parvatham
to help the stricken Rama and LakshmaNA .

In his Mohana raaga Krithi , " GetthayO HanumanthA " ,
Daasar celebrates the heroic deeds of HanumAn in the
battle field and His unshakable devotion to Sri RamA .
He says that there is no one equal to HanumAn in his
auspicious qualities , parAkramam , generosity and
majesty :

" EerELu jagadhoLakE innu mattE Yaaru Sari NinaKE
Veera Maha Bala SurAParakrama DheerA samirA udharA gambheerA
vamchita pala veevaa natha mukhya PrANa MahAnubhaavA
chimchithkashtava pataleesA bhaktharakE pamsajanya
tara Purandara Vitalana daasa ( EerElu ) ".

On this note of high tribute of Purandara Daasa , we will
conclude this night's celebration of the Vaibhavam of
HanumAn and seek His blessings .
