Re: Ramanuja & Bhagavatam

There is no doubt that Bhagavatam preceeded 10th century AD or 
Budhism, Jainism or any other religion. 

There are long chapters about story of RishabaDeva but not as a Jain 
Tirthankara. Secondly, in the very first skandha there is mention of 
24-avatarams in which there is a reference to the advent of Buddha.

Also one should note that the "Paavai nombu" that Andal talks about 
is similar in concept "kathyaayani nombu" observed by the gopis of 
vraja, as an austerity so that they would be blessed with Krishna as 
their husband. There is an extensive chapter in Bhagavatam, that 
describes this austerity that the maids want to observe and going to 
bathe in Yamuna etc. etc. 

The opening verse of Tiruppavai, "margazhi thingal ...." directly 
synchronizes with this chapter from 10th skandam "hemanthe pratame 
maase, nanda-gopa kumarikaa..."

Bhagavatam did exist before Andal who was born around 97yrs after the 
advent of Kali. It is a very old work. 

But that does not still answer the point why Ramanuja or Sankara did 
not make any references to it in their works. It becomes more 
important when we note that they refer to Paadma and Vishnu puranams 
and not refer to this.
