Sri:

Dear Sri Balaji,

As you may be aware the taittrIya-brahmanA (of Krishna Yajur Veda)
is divided into 4 sections - the first three are called ashtakAs
and the fouth one is the kAtakam. The last anuvAka of the kAtakam
"tasvaiyAtma padvitham vidithvA...yEbhyaschaynath prahu:" is
recited as part of the KYV sattrumurrai at SV temples and ashrams.

kAtakam deals with the different methods of (Agni) chayanAs i.e. the
file-piling srauta-yagna. sAvitram, nachikEtam, vaishva-srjam, chAtur-
hOtrium are some of the chayanAs in the kAtakam.

These chayanAs and the mantras from the Katakam section have deep
philosophical significance in that they deal with the mystical
creation and evolution of the universe through the Cosmic Sacrifice.

Hope erudite members can share more detailed information.

dasan,
-Shreyas
