RE: Casteism - Sastric pramana

Dear Sri Rajaram / bhAgavatAs,

While I am for having an open and objective discussion to clear doubts, I
feel it may not be in the best interests of this group to continue with this
discussion publicly, due to the sensitivity of the topic. Past experience
tells me somewhere down the line someone might inadvertently say things one
shouldn't. Please note that my intent here is NOT to sweep issues under the
carpet or don the role of a moderator.

Sri Madhavakannan and others have made the point very clear as regards Sri
Vaishnava position. I humbly request you to refer to Sri PurusasUkta, for
more direct references that you may be looking for.

Again, I'm not trying to stonewall this discussion but requesting everyone
to consider a private scope for extended discussions. Hope everyone
understands.

Sincerely,
Sriram

Subject: Casteism - Sastric pramana

Dear Sri Madhavakannan, Sri Sriram and Sri Selvaraj -
While I am moved by th humility of Sri Selvaraj and admire the knowledge of
Sri Madhavakannan and Sri Sriram, I would still like get my doubts cleared,
which have come about due to my ignorance. There are two schools which
propose caste by birth and qualities and both have strong arguments. I
would like to understand the sastric basis of these arguments before I am
convinced fully either way.
What are the references to sastras based on which caste is considered by
birth ? Sri Madhavakannan has definitely provided a summary of the sastric
stand. On controversial issues of this nature, I feel safer to go to the
exact verses and their meanings. Please forgive me for that.
I would be obliged if the exact sastric references are quoted.
Yours humbly
Rajaram V.
