DESCRIPTION As one of the many symposia organized at the upcoming WAVES conference, the focus of "New Approaches to the Study of South Asia" is on the history, methodology, critique and current developments of the very field of South Asian Studies/Indology itself. While the field of South Asian Studies purports to study the region of India/Pakistan/Nepal/Bangaladesh/Sri Lanka/Tibet, this forum is focused on studying and critically evaluating the research methods of the very field of South Asian Studies per se. We are seeking presentation proposals from scholars who are involved with new, original and cutting edge approaches to the study of South Asia in the fields of history, philosophy, culture, religion, literature, indigenous sciences, sociology, medicine, ecomonics, arts, political science, etc. The co-organizers of this symposium are Klaus K. Klostermaier of the University of Manitoba and Frank Morales of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. SUBMITTING PROPOSALS To submit a presentation proposal, please send an abstract of your paper, on both a disk, as well as a hard copy, in a minimum of 250 and a maximum of 300 words by postal mail to Frank Morales at the address below. Also include the registration form and fees listed below. DEADLINE The deadline for inclusion of your abstract in the Book of Abstracts is May 15, 2000.
