Ramanuja - 900 (27 - 31 January 1999)

Tha Makara Sukla Punarvasu was the holy day when Ramanuja unearthed
Tiru Narayana in Melkote. This year is the 900th anniversary of this
event.

Edhataam yatiraajasya saamraajyam sarvatomukham |
Yatra sampathkumaropi yuvaraja padaspadam ||

A grand ceremonial festivities organised by the Academy of Sanskrit
Research, Melkote and Sri Ramanuja Seva Trust and many other
organisations attracted a large number of devotees.

The Academy had organised a Ramanuja Siddhanta Pradarshini, an
exhibition and sale of ASR publications. A picture series depicting
Ramanuja's life was the main attraction. Artefacts from the Museum,
important books and palmleaves at the Academy's library were
displayed.  Vedartha Sangraha and the latest issue of the Research
Journal Tattvadipa were released on this occasion.

A bid pandal laid on one of the Mada streets housed the activities
organised by the Ramanuja Seva Trust. Srivaishnava Women Conference
(Goda Gosthi), Musical fete, discourses by scholars like Dr. M.A.
Venkatakrishnan and Vidvan Velakkudi Krishnan were well
received. "Yati Samaavesha", a meet of distinguished Yatis -
H.H. Rangapriya Swamiji (of Astanga Yoga Vijnana Mandiram, Bangalore),
HH Alagiya Singar (of Ahobila Mutt), HH Parakala Swamji (of
Brahmatantra Parakala Mutt, Mysore), HH Tridandi Chinna Jiyar Swamiji
and Sri Sugunendra Tirtha of Puthige Mutt, Udupi was an interesting
event.

The Academy of Sanskrit Research has planned the following activities to 
commemorate the occasion.

    1.. Sale of ASR publications at 35% discount during the next one 
year
    2.. Publishing the book on Melkote through the Ages
    3.. Organising lectures on Ramanuja Siddhanta at different places
    4.. Organising Sribhashya vichara goshti every fortnight
    5.. Raising a corpus fund of Rs. Three crores to continue the 
activities of the Academy smoothly.
    6.. Storing discourses of eminent scholars on CDs.
We seek munificent contribution from our well wishers to make the above 
things happen. The contributions made to the Academy are exempt from the 
Income Tax (@100%) u/s 35 (I) (iii).
