Dear Srimathi Radha:

Bhaja Govindham is a deeply stirring work
of Adhi Sankara . It has basic questions
about life and its purpose and provides
Upadesam to seek shelter at the scared feet of
the Lord to get release from the misery of
SamsAram .

There are a lot of translations available.
You may wish to look up the following thre URLs as
a starter to get at the profound questions
that Adhi Shankara asks in a rhetorical sense:

(1) http://www.geocities.com/rodeoDrive/1415/bhaja1.html
(2) http://www.hindubooks.org/books_by_rajaji/bhaja_govindam
This one is by the First Governor General of India ,
Sri Chakravarhty RajagopAlAchaari and is brilliant
    for its insights.

Best wishes,
