thiru adhyayana sEvai - part 17 - etthisaiyum Etthum
                                  initharangitthiLE !

Dear bAgawathAs,

malargaL koottAm manthiram muzhanga
nathigaL koodumidam nAthagAnam pAda
putthAdai aNiyum puthtu thirunAL
etthisaiyum Etthum initharangatthilE !

meaning:
On the holy day of deepavali heaps of flowers start to chant the
holy manthirams of Sri Arangan and were doing thier own aruLapp
Adu. The rivers kAuveri and koLLidam joined together in gOshti
and were singing the nAdha gAnam in praise of the Lord and were
receiving their own new clothing. During this time the spate in
thes rivers look like a new "veLLAdai" due to the torrential
downpour (aruL veLLam of perumAL). Everyone of the family members
receive the new clothes from the eldest of the family and wear
them in joy. All around the whole universe and in all possible
directions, everyone almost do the same celebrating the conquer
of Sri nArakAsura by SriKrishna, or Sri Arangan. The capital of
all these celebrations takes place in the happiest way in Sri
Arangam at abode of Sri Krishna HIMself, and the whole city of
Sri Arangam is joyous on this occassion. (ie inithu arangatthilE).
That bonfire from Sri rangam will warm up all the directions.

The dipAvali:
On the holy DipAvali day our Lord Sri namperumAL comes to the
santhana mandapam and will stay on a pedestal. Holy thiru
manchanam is performed and Prayers are offerred to HIM. All the
AzhWars and some AhcAryAs (15) come to kiLi mandapam that is east
of the sandana mandapam. This is a very moving and touching
ceremony as to how we all celebrate deepAvali in our own houses
in the presence of elders. We receive the "puthu thuni" or new
dresses from the eldest of the family after prostrating to them.
For all the AZwArs ans AchAryAs thiru manchanam is performed as &
the prasAdhams and sweets are offerred. 2 bags of cloth and each
containing Rs 500 (Olden days this was the amount) are
dwajasthambam with a delightful music and are placed near the
holy feet of Lord.

When our Lord Sri namperumAL rises onto shoulders of the
bearers "AruLappAdu" is given. "AruLappAdu" is the divine call or
Order from the Lord. Each and every AzhwArs and AchAryAs come
one by one as each one's name is called and in the order they are
called. They come near the lord and a new vastrA is adorned to
them. The sadari is waved in honour and a little bit of sandal
paste is placed on their anjalihastham. After this perumAL goes
back to HIS abode and as well the AzhwArs and AchAryAs. The names
that are called are 1. Sri NammAzhwAr 2. Sri thirumangai AzhwAr,
3. Sri udayavar 4. Sri PeriAzhwAr 5. Sri madura kavi 6. Sri
Poigai AzhwAr 7. Sri Bootha AzhwAr 8. Sri pEy AzhwAr. 9. Sri kula
sEkara AzhwAr. 10. Sri Thirup pAn AzhwAr 11. Sri thondar adi podi
AzhwAr 12. Sri Thiru mazhisai AzhwAr. 13. Sri Thiruk kacchi nambi
14. Sri kooratthAzhwAr 15. Sri Pillai lOkAchAryAL.

All through out this month of thula the thiru manchana theerttham
is brought from kauveri in a "gold vessel" on top of elephant.
Same way through out this month all the vessels used in pooja are
also of gold instead of silver.
