Re: Hanuman - ?

Dear Sri Ram Kumar,

Will you kindly tell me where this story occurs? As far as my limited knowledge, this is not found either in Valmiki or Kamban. The 'Siranjeevi' pattam was never conferred on Ravana. Brahma turns down his request for grant of immortality. 'Ask anything else,' is his firm answer. However, he confers it on Vibishana, even without his asking for it. What Lord Shiva conferred on him was a life span of 3,50,00,000 years. These details can be found in Uttara Kandam. By the way, Kamban stopped with pattabishekam in Tamil. He did not write Uttara Kandam. It was written subsequently by poet OttakUththar.

Hanuman is an amsam of Shiva, though he is the son of Vayu, with Anjana and Kesari as his parents. I have seen evidences to the effect that he is an amsam of Shiva in Kamban. I am not able to recollect where.

Regards,

Sincerely,
Hari Krishnan
