"Idu" interprets the line as "ellA acEtanamum ellA cEtanarum tAnEyAy
antantac cEtanarutaiya (acitsamsarkkanipantamAna) tEvati vyavastaikalil
(avarkalaip pOlat tanakku) cankamillAtavanAy...."

Your reading of the verse maintains a better cohesion than my reading. So
"camayam" in context means the nature of being which you have read as the
"natural characteristics of those beings".
In line with "cettatin vayiRRil ciriyatu pirantAl ettai tinru enkE
kitakkum?" and the answer thereof, your interpretation is more plausible
than mine. Please accept my apologies for the hasty translation and the
imperfect understanding of mine.
