                RARE ANECDOTES (1)

In their works, the Alwars have referred the great
Epics of Srimadh Ramayanam, Maha Bharatham, and
Srimadh Bhagavatham in several places. They have
transformed themselves into the particular character
and explained the entire episodes. Though all such
verses have the exact reference of the great epics, in
certain places they have not been supported by the
actual explanations. In view of innumerable blessings
of Bhagavan on them, the Alwars could experience those
episodes. In this mail I am trying to share those
verses with our honourable members. Needless to note
that our Acharyas have also explained them in their
commentaries.

Sri Periyalwar, in his work in the 2nd century, 7th
division, 8th song, makes a direct reference, which
runs as under.
‘O Ranganatha, Please come and adorn the IRUVATCHI
flower garland without any delay. In spite of your
repeated warnings to SRIMAALIKAN in a friendly manner,
he was adamant to hold the Disc(chakra) in his hand.
Finally he was disposed with the same chakra as the
Chakra is the divine weapon and an ornament, which
will not allow any unwanted elements to survive.

Likewise, in his work in the 3rd century, 10th
division, 2nd song, 3rd line, Sri Periyalwar tries to
speak through SIRIYA THIRUVADI (Hanumar).

In Srimadh Ramayanam, in the Sundara Kandam Division,
Perumal, while giving the Ring to Thiruvadi, narrates
certain identifications with a request to pass on the
same to Thayar. Alwar says that while both perumal
and Thayar were in their private hall, during a
particular night, perumal threw a jasmine garland on
thayar out of joy. This information he preferred to
convey to Thayar.

Kindly permit me to present some more in my next mail

Pranams

Madhavan .
