Inter-Vaishnava debate, etc.

From the Bhakti List Archives

• April 28, 2000

Dear Members,

The debate about the theological doctrines of various
Vaishnava schools has been interesting, but I think we have
discussed enough in public for the moment. It is clear
that we have established the Sri Vaishnava position
beyond a reasonable doubt. What continues to linger is
a debate between the Gaudiya Vaishnava position and
the Sri Vaishnava position. This kind of debate is
something that is best carried off-line -- this way
two or three people can come to a reasoned conclusion
between themselves and spare the rest of us the gory,
blow-by-blow details.

Furthermore, in my absence I note that a few members
have taken their argumentation to a personal level,
resulting in exchanges containing significant acrimony.
I urge members to think very carefully before publicly
engaging in such behavior; it is better to take such
personally driven comments off-line so as to not subject
the List at large to your words.

And lest we forget, this List does not exist to endlessly
prove to the rest of the world that Sri Vaishnavism is
beyond assail. Such a task is impossible. In all respects,
please keep your emails brief and readable.

To those still engaged in this discussion (Sri Hari Krishna,
Sri Anand, and others): if, after prolonged discussion on
your own, amongst yourselves, you have come to some conclusion
that adds new substance to these discussions, please do
come and contribute a summary.

Thanking you,
Mani
